i would not have waited 12 years before saying that df'ing was their problem, not mine, and how dare they question how i live my life and bring up my children?
i'm the one setting the right example by loving them without any conditions being attached.. if i'd known then what i know now, i would have accepted that most people are kind and helpful whenever possible.

I am enjoying the 'here and now', the freedom to think for myself and no burdens of misplaced guilt, at least I'm enjoying it as much as I can with the rift the shunning rule has placed between family members.
What I lament over and cannot replace is the years lost to the 'then and past'. I would dearly love to be able to do them over again but differently. But like crying over spilt milk, what's the use.
At least I can enjoy the here and now for which I am extremely grateful.

Just wanted to say thanks here since I tried to sent a reply back to you from that site but it wouldn't acknowledge you email address for some reason. I must have made an error some place. Just wanted you to know I appreciated it.
by now most of us have heard the urban legends of smurfs vs. jw's.. such as smurf dolls walking down kingdom hall aisles or strangling jw babies (replaced dingos eating them in australia lol).. the initial problem jw's had with smurfs was that on the tv show they were conjuring up spells, later more ummm "enlightened" jw viewers started questioning a community of all males with only one female (smurfette).. so jw's felt that it was not appropriate for jw children to watch shows about magic.. it is this same reasoning that has scared some away more recently rom harry potter novels and pokemon.. it was stupid when it involved smurfs and is just as stupid now.

It was several of the elders' children and ours (my ex was an elder too) that all played together as we all lived in the same neighbourhood. They all heard the same stories and went to Disneyland in Florida USA where the characters Snow White, and such, were walking around and hugging the children. We all were happy parents snapping pictures.
My mom took me to see Cinderella when I was little and we (all the parents) took our children to see the Walt Disney movies of Snow White, Cinderella etc. too! GASP!!! all that magic, wand-waving and bibbidi bobbodi boo! My daughter still has fond memories of her favourite story - Snow White.

I remember the Cabbage Patch dolls and wanted one for my little girl and myself. I used to think they were adorable, and many of the JW children had them...even a few of the little boys had the boy dolls. But I don't recall any demon stories about them. No one that I can remember had any objections to owning them, but I'll check around and see what the memories are around here.
As for the garden gnomes, that was a definite no-no...magic and all that, even though they looked like the 7 dwarfs of the Snow White story which we all told our children for bedtime stories.

I certainly hope you can find peace in your family with the mish-mash of religious beliefs you all have. You seem to be on the right track of gathering info on JWs by coming here and Randy's site. There's still a wealth of info out there which I believe can be accessed through his site. I'm sure others will guide you to where to find any answers you need.
I'm still at the point where I'm gathering scads of info and organizing it in a binder for the possible time when I can discuss things with my family. First I want to find my own "happy place" as I call it, of what I believe in, so I still have a lot of research to do.

Boy I must be getting tired (it's 11 pm Tuesday here) I had an answer just about ready to post and I must have hit the 'enter' button and poof!! it was gone....so I have to start over.
Yes my friend liked what she saw today..I've been telling her several things that have happened the last few weeks in our discussions...so today she got to see the forum and how it works. She thought it was a hoot!!
She would love to join in but is not comfortable with computer-use right now. We discussed she could come over more often and join in when I'm on-line (which is in-and-out several times a day)
She is reading C of C. right now and joining the 'class of the opened-eyes". She keeps tripping over her jaw right now just like I was a few months ago...actually I still am quite often.
I prepared her for the inevitable outbursts before I logged on so she wasn't shocked , but she really enjoyed the rapport so many of us have here and liked wealth of info presented.
Maybe we'll have a new registrant soon.

Dateline is an investigative report show. They do scads of research into a topic and tape interviews, also showing attempted interviews that are refused and do an indepth report.
